Pacific Rose Bowl Festival

The four-day festival is named after the trophy awarded to the winner of the New Zealand Rose of the Year Trials.

Public voting is the most unique aspect of these rose trials. The general public decide the winners by casting votes for their favourite 5 roses. A tally of all votes awards the winners. Children are invited to join the festivities too. All children’s votes are calculated to award the prestigious Children’s Choice Award.

2017 introduces a new category: Best Shrub Rose. Other awards include Best New Zealand Raised Rose,Best Hybrid Tea Rose, Best Climbing Rose, Best Floribunda, Most Fragrant Rose and Children’s Choice Award.

The festival coincides with the Daltons Waikato Rose Society’s Rose Show held in the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion, where there will be more beautiful roses on display.

Rotorua District Festival of Gardens

The 2015 Rotorua District Festival of Gardens will showcase over 40 gardens throughout the district from tiny town gardens to large rural properties.

As the organisers are volunteers and the gardeners open their gardens for no charge, funds can then be donated to the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter. The 2013 Festival raised $15,000 for them.

It is the garden owners’ vision, hard work and generosity that ensure a successful Festival. It provides a catalyst for visitors to enjoy beautiful gardens as well as Rotorua’s myriad of activities. Many people use it as a chance to visit family and friends while, at the same time, contributing to a worthy charity – the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.NZ2
